Homemade Croutons

Homemade croutons are crisp, golden cubes of bread seasoned with herbs, garlic, and olive oil, then baked or sautéed to perfection. They add irresistible crunch and flavor to salads, soups, and more. Prep and all has these ready in 30 minutes or less.

These are ready in 30 minutes or less

Ingredients

  • 4 cups day-old bread (cubed – sourdough, French, or sandwich bread work well)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (or a mix of oregano, thyme, basil)
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Toss bread cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, herbs, and salt in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  3. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  4. Bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
  5. Let cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 2 months
