Old Fashioned (traditional)
With the rise of the craft cocktail movement in the early 2000s, the Old Fashioned experienced a renaissance. Bartenders and mixologists began to revisit classic recipes, emphasizing quality ingredients and traditional preparation methods with a few extra creative additions. This recipe is the basic one that your grandfather likely enjoyed.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Maker’s Mark bourbon (or your choice)
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist and cherry for garnish
- scoop of bar ice (I prefer ice rock similar to here)
Preparation:
- Place the syrup and bourbon in a cocktail shaker with one large ice cube and shake 20 times
- Add the bitters to the glass
- Add ice or ice ball
- Strain syrup/bourbon from shaker
- Garnish with lemon twist and cherry
- Don’t wait. Enjoy immediately!
